Biblical People: Sons of Korah

There are several men named Korah in the Bible. The one we know best is the Levite Korah who rebels against Moses and God. Because of the uprising he leads, God kills Korah and his family—and presumably his three sons.

Therefore, it’s not likely this Korah’s sons—that is, his descendants—who we read about in the book of Psalms. But if it’s a different Korah, we know nothing about him.

Regardless, these Sons of Korah (2) are listed in the preamble in eleven of the 150 psalms. These introductory phrases are part of the original text, unlike subheadings that were later added, as we see throughout the rest of the Bible.

Though the Sons of Korah may have written each song, an alternate interpretation is that they performed them.

To have their names attached to these eleven psalms suggests they’re skilled at what they do and enjoy a following. Their praise of God is noteworthy and an example that can inspire us.

What are we known for?

How can we better praise God?
